Cutting ties with Russia
Due to the invasion of Ukraine, many companies and organisations are no longer doing business with Russia. Supermarkets such as Asda, Morrisons and Co-op have removed Russian vodka off the shelves alongside other Russian products. The UK based oil and gas giant, Shell has also revealed to boycott Russia’s oil, gas as well as other hydrocarbon products.
CVS and the metaverse
The US retailer, CVS has been named the first pharmaceutical store to enter the metaverse. CVS Health with a market cap of $140 billion has filed a trademark to sell virtual goods, NFT and other health-related services. The metaverse had originally been introduced by MetaPlatforms to provide new means of communication via virtual and augmented reality.
End of the road for Amazon bookstores
Having launched its first bookstore in 2015, Amazon has confirmed that it is closing all 89 physical bookstores. Amazon plans to focus on its new projects such as AmazonFresh and Amazon Go, which have contributed to this closure. Furthermore, current employees will not be left without a job, as there is the option to work at other nearby Amazon stores.
